Parade reflection of Franklin’s spirit

For most people, perception is reality.
And so, after two consecutive years without a Christmas parade in Franklin — the first year due to inclement weather and the second year due to a lack of interest — the perception for many was that given all of Franklin’s struggles, the lack of a Christmas parade was yet another indication of Franklin’s imminent demise.
Up to the plate stepped a group of concerned citizens, civic organizations and city leaders, who realizing that Franklin could not afford for this perception to become a reality, formed a committee to plan and organize the revival of the Christmas Parade. And what a fabulous job they did!
This year’s parade, by many accounts, was one of the best ever. An estimated 5,000 lined up six-deep in some spots along Main Street. They were treated to some 20 floats, five marching bands and an appearance by Santa.
It was a great event as far as parades go. It was an even greater achievement as far as public perception goes.
If perception is in fact reality, then let this year’s parade indicate this: Franklin is no longer on the decline as many have suggested the last couple of years, but on the rise and poised for great new things.
And that perception will become reality because of the hardworking folks who love this community enough to have put on such a great parade.
Thanks to all who made the 2011 Franklin Community Christmas Parade a reality.
