FRANKLIN—Food Lion in Franklin is undergoing a $589,000 renovation “aimed at creating a neighborhood market.”

“From time to time, we identify stores in our markets as part of ongoing remodeling effort,” said Food Lion spokesman Benny Smith. “There will be big changes to the look and feel of the store.”

Smith said the renovation will include new floors and refrigerator cases, and a different look among departments. The renovation also includes a new $2,300 sign, according to a building permit filed with the city.

There also will be a wider product selection, including new meat and deli choices and an expanded inventory of wine and specialty items.

The renovation will create no new jobs and will be completed by summer. The store will remain open during the project.
