Turner earned retirement

To the Editor:
You see like Mr. Turner, I too am a graduate of Southampton County Training School.
We always raised the bar for those who will follow. All county schools are fully accredited. Students receive an array of scholarships upon their graduation with pride.
“Mr. T.” recognized the efforts required to reach and motivate staff, teachers and all students of this county.
He further recognized the only true commodity of this county are the students of this county.
Soon another person will sit in his chair, but unlike the newly elected board member, he or she must follow the lead of the county administrator’s office, which sets and prepares the county agenda. It will take a great person to achieve a small portion of “Mr. T.’s” accomplishments.
He is a fighter (being trained in a system of denies), who did not choose to retire because of conservative elected officials. He retired because of 45-plus years devoted to a system he has shaped and molded for the future.
So to Mr. Charles E. Turner, take your earned retirement. To the newly elected officials and their followers, can you reach the role of his shoes by making the county commodities even greater in the future.
