FRANKLIN—The clerk to the Franklin School Board and executive assistant to Superintendent Michelle Belle is retiring.

Maggie Swain’s position will be filled.

“Maggie has so much knowledge that she’s almost irreplaceable,” Belle said during Monday’s School Board meeting. “She’s a major asset. She’s been wonderful to the board.”

Belle said the position would be posted on the school district’s website. The job will pay between $30,000 and $52,000 annually.

In related business, the board voted 5-2 to hire a part-time human resource specialist. Board Chairman Bill Scarboro and Board Member Glenn Hopkins dissented.

“I’m concerned about adding another person to the ranks,” Scarboro said about his vote. “I’m concerned with the board looking to next year and the fiscal challenges faced.”

This person will handle employment applications, renewals and licensing 20 hours a week, Belle said. Swain handled these duties.

The job will pay $20 an hour and will be posted on the division’s website.
