COURTLAND—Janet Kitchen Crumpler, 49, passed away surrounded by family and friends on November 20, 2011, at Sentara Obici Hospital after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Franklin, Janet was an honors graduate of Southampton Academy and obtained a bachelor’s degree from Meredith College.
She was the former curator of the City of Suffolk Museum, former curator of Rawls Museum Arts, worked in the business office of Southampton Academy for seven years and was currently a mortgage specialist with Bronco Federal Credit Union.
Janet is a member of Courtland Baptist Church and a former member of Sycamore Baptist Church.
She had a passion for fishing on the Suffolk lakes and the Nottoway River since she was a little girl. Janet loved sports her entire life, from playing basketball and softball in high school, attending her son Daniel’s sporting events and watching sports with her family. She especially liked NFL football, Major League baseball and college basketball. Janet also enjoyed the regular visits with her family to the Outer Banks.
Janet was the dear and precious daughter of George and Ann Kitchen. Besides her parents, she is survived by her son, Peter Daniel Crumpler IV; a sister, Rhonda K. Ford and husband, Billy, of Dallas, Texas; paternal grandmother, Ferne Kitchen; her son’s father and friend, Dan Crumpler and his mother, Letitia Crumpler; her aunts, Lillian Drake, Mary Pierson and Jeannie Darden; her uncles, James Coleman and wife, Mary Ann; and Hugh Coleman; and nieces and nephews, Rachel, Sara, Justin and Jacob.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 26, 2011, in the chapel of Wright Funeral Home, Franklin, with the Rev. Dr. M. Reginald Warren, Rev. Jason S. Wise and Rev. Tommy Speight officiating. Internment will follow at Riverside Cemetery, Courtland.
The family will receive visitors at the home of George and Ann Kitchen, 26167 Rochelle Street, Courtland.
