Herbert Baker Carr

IVOR—Herbert Baker Carr, 77, passed away Wednesday, November 16, 2011, at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Born on August 19, 1934, in Southampton County, he was the son of the late Robert Clifton and Mattie Joyner Carr.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Judy Raiford Carr; two loving sons and daughters-in-law, Bruce Carr and his wife, Amy B. Carr, of Sedley and Mark Carr and his wife, Katrina G. Carr, of Ivor; four beloved grandchildren, Rebecca and Mattie Carr, Jeremy Hedgepeth and Travis Carr; a brother, George Carr and wife, Carolyn, of Ivor; and sister-in-law, Barbara Parker Carr of Ivor.
He was also preceded in death by a sister, Janet C. Stieh; and a brother, Merrell C. Carr.
Herbert was a lifelong member of Corinth Friends Meeting, Ivor.
He worked as a mechanic for the John Deere Corporation most of his life and was an active member of the Ivor Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad for more than 30 years. At the time of his death, he had been an honorary member of the fire department for several years.
The family will receive friends and family at the Wakefield Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home on Friday, November 18, 2011, from 6 to 8 p.m. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, November 19, 2011 at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Chad McGinnis officiating.
