SUMTER, S.C.—William Lowell Harritt Jr., 60, husband of Michele Hundley Harritt, a former Franklin resident, died Sunday, November 13, 2011.

Born in Indianapolis, Ind., he was a son of the late William Lowell Harritt, MD, and Pauline Moise Harritt.

He graduated from Edmunds High School and received his undergraduate and Juris Doctor from the University of South Carolina.

He was a lifetime member of First Presbyterian Church, where he served as a Sunday school teacher, Deacon and Elder.

He was also a member of the Sumter County Bar Association, The Fortnightly Club, the Sumter County Historical Society and the Sumter County Museum. Mr. Harritt was also a board member of the Habitat for Humanity, a board member of the Second Mill Association and a former board member of the Sumter Cemetery Association.

He was in private practice at Levi, Wittenberg, Harritt, Hoefer and Davis for 35 years.

Surviving are his wife of Sumter; a son, William Lowell Harritt III and wife Janet of St. Louis, Mo.; two daughters, Michele Harritt Kelly and husband Stephen of Sumter and Margaret Chappell Harritt of Atlanta, Ga.; four grandchildren, Darden, Margaret Briggs, McKinley and Pierson Kelly; two sisters, Pauline Harritt Harrell and husband Randy of West Point, Va., and Margaret McFaddin Harritt of Fairfax, Va.; one brother, Frank McKinley Harritt and wife Lyna of Arvada, Colo.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at First Presbyterian Church.

Private graveside services will be held at Sumter Cemetery.
