Personal property tax rate questioned

To the Editor:
Residents , have you noticed that when you have paid your personal property tax for the last two years that your car is not depreciating in value?
It is increasing?
My understanding is that a car that gets older decreases in value, not increases. Last year I asked the county about this, and I was told that the taxes were increased because of the Obama program for the clunkers.
What does that have do with your car when yours is not a clunker? I think the rate they are charging is outrageous.
The residents of the county should bring this to the attention of our elected officials. In these economic times higher taxes are putting undue pressures on the citizens of Southampton County. Is it legal to tax your car for more than it is worth?
How do you feel about this?
