IVOR—The Town of Ivor will have a Christmas Parade followed by a tree-lighting ceremony on Sunday, Dec. 4.

“It went over so well last year, we’re hoping to make this an annual event,” said committee chairwoman Sandy Vick, who is being assisted by Jo Ann Joyner and the Ivor Town Council.

With the theme Winter Wonderland, the event will start at 3 p.m. Parade entrants should line up at The Pines of Ivor at 2:30. Anyone who would like to enter the parade should call Vick at 859-6789.

“There’s still room,” she said.

Southampton and Windsor high school bands will participate as well as several floats, antique cars, the 2011 Southampton Fair Queen, and several fire and rescue departments.

After the parade, which will be led by former Mayor Massey Joyner as grand marshal, brothers Curt and Wyatt Newsome and friends will perform at the Ivor Municipal Building. This will be followed by a dinner of Brunswick stew provided by the Ladies Auxiliary of the Ivor Rescue Squad.

At 6 p.m., students from the Nottoway Elementary School Chorus will sing Christmas carols. The lighting of the Cody Stallard Memorial Christmas Tree will occur at 6:30.

“We’re hoping to have Santa and Mrs. Claus again this year, but we’re not sure yet,” Vick said. “But we are looking for a big turnout. This is a festive occasion, a time when the entire community can get together for fellowship, to make new friends and visit with current ones.”
