Mary J. Hasty

FRANKLIN—Mary Joyner Hasty, 97, widow of Ryland L. Hasty, passed away November 15, 2011.

Born in Southampton County, she was a daughter of the late Jay Gould Joyner Sr. and Mary Blythe Joyner.

She was a graduate of Franklin High School and Miss Fannie Webb’s Business School.

Mrs. Hasty retired from Union Camp Corporation, where she was a paper tester in the sheet plant.

She was a wonderful mother and possessed a kind, thoughtful disposition. She was, however, most well known for her fried chicken, and chocolate and lemon meringue pies.

Mrs. Hasty was a member of Hunterdale Christian Church, where she was a former Sunday school teacher, member of the Woman’s Fellowship, Ladies Bible Class and a former Cub Scout leader.

She was predeceased by a grandson, David R. “Dave” Kitchen III; a son-in-law David R. Kitchen Jr.; and her brothers and sisters, Joshua Earl “Buddy” Joyner, Eunice J. Madron, Alma Lee J. Drake and J.G. Joyner Jr.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Rebecca H. Kitchen; her son, James Bradley Hasty and wife, Judy; a granddaughter, Melissa Kitchen Gayle and husband, Brian; and two great-grandchildren, Bradley David Gayle and Andrew Keith Gayle.

She was predeceased by a grandson, David R. “Dave” Kitchen III and her brothers and sisters, Joshua Earl “Buddy” Joyner, Eunice J. Madron, Alma Lee J. Drake and J.G. Joyner Jr.

A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, November 17, 2011, at Wright Funeral Home with the Rev. Randy Wright officiating. Burial will be private in Southampton Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Robert Edwards and the staff of the East Pavilion for the exemplary care they provided.
