Smithfield Police Chief Mark Marshall defeated incumbent Charlie Phelps and James Crotts to become the new Isle of Wight County sheriff. Marshall got 7,319 votes, or 66 percent of ballots cast, with all precincts reporting. Phelps received 3,028 votes and Crotts got nearly 800 votes.
