You asked: Can state road crews work on Sundays?

FRANKLIN—Contractors working on a Virginia Department of Transportation roadway must follow certain hours or days of limitations.

Those contracts usually exclude work on weekends and certain times during the weekdays because of increased congestion, said Brooke Grow, spokeswoman for VDOT.

Crews are typically allowed to work Monday-Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Monday-Thursday from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Crews do not typically work on Friday nights, or Saturdays, Grow said. Crews can get permission from VDOT to work on Sunday afternoons.

“It’s very rare to have Sunday work,” Grow said.

Grow said contractors can use Sunday work to make up for weather days or other issues.

Road crews were recently spotted working on a repaving project on Highway 35 in Courtland.
