Blue law discriminates against hunters

To the Editor:

It is a pity that hunters are discriminated against because of this 1950 blue law that is still on the books.

Of course, I guess we taxpayers don’t mind losing $15 million to $23 million a year in extra tax revenue that hunting on Sundays would generate like the other 45 states in the union do, nor do I guess the 100 some odd Virginians who are killed or maimed by deer running into cars every year during hunting season would want hunters to hunt on Sundays either.

So, I guess, go shop, eat at restaurants, go to a movie and such on Sundays and forget about your ever-increasing tax bill and all the Virginians who are killed or maimed every year because of this blue law.

Poor old George Washington and Thomas Jefferson, who hunted on Sundays, would be very proud of us today, I feel assured.
