FRANKLIN—The Downtown Franklin Association canceled its annual Chili Cook-off due after only one team signed up.

The Saturday, Nov. 5, cook-off would have marked the third consecutive and the fifth overall at Barrett’s Landing, said Dan Howe, executive director of DFA.

“It did pretty good the last three years,” said Howe.

DFA had one confirmed participant and two others interested that had not signed up by the deadline.

“We probably would’ve had a good turnout for people, but you have to have the people to cook,” Howe said.

He blamed the economy and scheduling conflicts for the lack of interest, but said the event would be placed on DFA’s calendar next year to gauge early interest.

“If we get enough early interest, we’ll push to have it again,” Howe said.

Three years ago the event attracted 13 to 14 teams, in 2009 the event had about 11 teams and in 2010 there were seven.
