COURTLAND–Reese O. McCormick, Jr., 91 of Courtland, VA passed away at Southampton Memorial Hospital on Saturday, October 29, 2011.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Nancy Walthall McCormick, by his parents, Reese O. McCormick, Sr. and Elizabeth Bonsack McCormick and by a grandson-in-law, David C. Moore. He is survived by his four daughters, Beth Herndon (Paul) of Scottsville, VA, Dorothy Bryant (Clayton) of Courtland, VA, Margaret Jackson of Courtland, VA and Teresa Bess (Julian) of Frederick, MD, seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, two brothers, John and Elliott of Chatham, VA and a host of nieces and nephews.
Reese was a member of Courtland Baptist Church and a proud World War II veteran serving in the 8th Air Force with the Army Air Corps in England. During his 50 years of service in the Kiwanis, he was a past Lt. Governor of the 21st Division of Kiwanis International, past President, Secretary, and Treasurer of Franklin Kiwanis.
A 1942 graduate of VPI, Blacksburg, VA, he was a past member of the Virginia Tech Foundation Board and College of Agriculture & Life Science Alumni Board. Along with his wife, Nancy, he was the first inductee into the College of Agriculture & Life Science Hall of Fame.
Services will be held Wednesday, November 2, 2011 at 11:00 am at Wright Funeral Home, Franklin, VA, after which the family will receive guests. The Rev. James W. Ricks will officiate. Interment with military honors will be Thursday, November 3, 2011 at 11:00 am at Highland Burial Park in Danville, VA where he will be laid to rest beside his beloved wife, Nancy.
