Ethel Marion Mutts Vaughan

FRANKLIN—Ethel Marion Mutts Vaughan of Woodland Drive, Franklin, Va., transitioned from this life to eternal rest and peace on October 24, 2011.

A native of Scotland Neck, N.C., she was born to Effriam and Annie Mutts.

After completing elementary and secondary education, Ethel matriculated at Bennett College and Fayetteville State Teachers College, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education. Further studies were completed at The College of William & Mary, University of Virginia and Cortez-Peters Business College.

On June 21, 1958, Ethel married Elvin Norwood Vaughan.

Her work affiliations included U.S. Department of Navy at the Pentagon, instructor for school systems of Robinsonville, N.C., Southampton County and Franklin City.

Ethel was a member of First Baptist Church of Franklin where she served as a member of The Family and Senior Choirs.

In the community, Ethel was a member of the Cosmonettes, Franklin City Planning Commission, Franklin City Library Board and a life member of Lambda Psi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc.

Ethel was preceded in death by her parents.

She is survived by her husband, Elvin; daughter, Karen Norletta; her devoted son-in-law, Junious “Junnie”; and her grand dog, Gucci. Also, she leaves to cherish her memory, many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, October 30, 2011, First Baptist Church, 318 Hall St., Franklin, Va., with Reverend Henry Blunt delivering the message of comfort; Reverend D.S. Riddick, Jr. is pastor. The committal and benediction will be in Southview Cemetery.
