CAPRON—Deaconess Barbara A. Parker of Southampton Pkwy., Capron, VA departed this life October 18, 2011.

The Southampton County native was born March 9, 1935 to Joe and Christine Wright Hicks.

She was a member of Pine Level Baptist Church where she served on the Deaconess Board and a member of Senior Choir. During her early years, she graduated from Southampton County Training School. Upon high school graduation, she attended Norfolk State University.

Barbara was preceded by her husband Ruben C. Parker. She is survived by the loving Hicks siblings, who considered her a “sister.”

On Sunday evening, a visitation service will be held 4:00 – 6:00 PM in the funeral home chapel. A homegoing service will be held Monday, Oct. 24, 2011 at 1:00 PM, Pine Level Baptist Church, 23035 Church Street, Capron, VA, with Elder Catherine Hamlin delivering the eulogy; Reverend Keith Rose is pastor. The committal and benediction will be held in Morning Star Church Cemetery. On the day of service, her remains will rest in church for viewing by 11:30 AM.
