ZUNI – The bridge carrying Tucker Swamp Road over Norfolk Southern railroad tracks in Zuni was immediately closed after an annual safety inspection Wednesday.

Virginia Department of Transportation spokeswoman Brooke Grow said in a statement the bridge was closed due to concerns with deterioration of critical portions of the bridge.

Grow said a timeline for the repairs is unknown at this time. She said since Norfolk Southern owns the bridge VDOT is working with them to make the appropriate repairs and get the road back open to traffic.

She said crews have a detour in place for motorists who need to travel in this area during the closure.
