Jay G. Joyner Jr.

FRANKLIN-Jay Gould Joyner, Jr., 91, a retired farmer and native of Southampton County, passed away October 14, 2011.
A beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather, he was a son of the late Jay Gould Joyner, Sr. and Mary Blythe Joyner also of Southampton County. Known to his friends and family as “J.G.”, his grandchildren called him “Dee Dee” because they were too young to pronounce “J.G.” Mr. Joyner was predeceased by his beloved wife of 53 years, Nellie Scott Joyner, one brother, Earl Joshua (Buddy) Joyner and two sisters, Eunice Joyner Madron of Franklin and Alma Lee Drake of Newsoms. Mr. Joyner was a member of Hunterdale Christian Church where he had served as deacon, usher, and on several committees. He was a charter member of the Hunterdale Ruritan Club and a veteran of the United States Army having served in France and Germany during World War II.
Left to cherish his memory are one son, Jeffery S. Joyner and wife, Rhonda Pope Joyner, of Franklin; one grandson, Jason W. Joyner and fiancée, Courtney March, of Franklin; one granddaughter, Mary Joyner Dunn, and husband, Timothy Stephen Dunn, of Franklin and one great grandson, Timothy Stephen Dunn, Jr. He is also survived by one sister, Mary Joyner Hasty of Franklin, and one special sister-in-law, Mamie Scott Whitley of Franklin.
A graveside funeral with military honors will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, October 17 at Poplar Spring Cemetery, with the Rev. Randy Wright officiating.
