FRANKLIN—A Franklin man was arrested for having suspected ecstasy and marijuana when police searched his home on Thursday in the 900 block of Rebecca Street, Hunterdale.

Wei Chieh Yang, 24, was charged with possession of marijuana and ecstasy, and possession of ammunition by a convicted felon, said Southampton County Sheriff’s spokeswoman, Sgt. Wanda Covington. The value for the ecstasy is $20 and marijuana, $100.

A search warrant was executed after the Meherrin Task Force conducted an investigation using confidential informants making controlled buys of marijuana, Covington said.

Franklin Police also were involved in the search.

Yang was free on bond for charges for an Aug. 17 arrest by Southampton County officials for possession of cocaine and marijuana. These charges are pending trial.

On Oct. 9, 2009, the Sheriff’s Office and Franklin Police executed a similar search warrant, Covington said. Yang was convicted for cocaine possession.

He is on probation for the 2009 charge.

Yang was not given bond on the new charges and was taken to Western Tidewater Regional Jail.
