To the Editor:

I must have missed the advent for the Sunday morning Isle of Wight County Fair staff golf cart races; fastest and first to finish 250 laps wins, bonus points for hitting potholes and splashing visitors/customers.

Sunday also must have been “grouchy volunteer day” at the fair. On the way out of the vendor gate (my husband was a volunteer), I was interrogated and lectured.

Where were all the smiles? Where was the “thank-you” for coming out to visit the Isle of Wight County Fair? Where was the “Ya’ll come back next year”?

Not a single smile on a staff member all day unless they were splashing a visitor in their golf carts.

Thanks to all for the fair. It was charming even with the terrible weather. Note for next year — lose the golf carts and gain some smiling people.
