To the Editor:

I would like to thank the Newsoms Fire Department and other neighbors who were out Sunday morning after Hurricane Irene cutting up the trees that blocked all the roads in our community.

I’m sure they had chores at their own homes they needed to be working on, but they chose to help out the whole community instead. I’m sure their efforts made it easier for the power companies to get in and fix our downed lines much sooner.

We’re also grateful to the power companies and employees, both local and from other parts of Virginia and North Carolina, who spent the week in our county getting power back for everyone. We don’t appreciate being able to turn a faucet or light switch on and getting immediate results until we can’t!
