Franklin golf team 5-0 on season

PETERSBURG—The Franklin High School golf team continues to dominate the Tri-Rivers District, winning its fifth match on Thursday to remain undefeated.

Franklin defeated Sussex 188 to 195 at Dog Trace Municipal Golf Course in Petersburg. Windsor and Surry also participated, but did not have the required four players to earn a team score.

“We were just consistent, and our top four golfers all shot pretty good,” said Bronco Coach Dave Lease.

Ben Scarboro led Franklin, shooting a 40 on the nine-hole, par-36 course. Scarboro placed second overall.

Jared Latham of Sussex won the tournament with a 36. Cody Reese of Windsor and Chelsea Kaleita of Surry, both scored 44 followed by Sean Dejiacomo of Windsor and Zack Hopkins of Franklin, both 47; Jacob Pittman of Sussex, 49; Tevin Sumblin of Franklin, 50; Tony Bland of Franklin, 51; and Donald Vann of Surry, 53.

Windsor will host the next district match at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 6, at Cypress Creek Golf Course in Smithfield.
