Hurricane shelters closed by Sunday

FRANKLIN—Shelters that opened on Friday evening at three Western Tidewater locations for Hurricane Irene were all closed by Sunday.
Rob Shapiro, public relations director for the American Red Cross, Coastal Virginia Region, said the shelter at Southampton High had 48 people on Friday and 113 on Saturday. The one at Franklin High School had seven people Friday and 28 by Sunday morning.
No numbers were available for the Windsor High School shelter.
