FRANKLIN-James Dillard Bailey, Sr., 83, died August 27, 2011.

Born September 6, 1927 in Hertford County, NC, he was a son of the late Robert G. Bailey, Sr. and Ida Stephenson Bailey. He was predeceased by his wife, Hazel Carr Bailey; a son, James Dillard Bailey, Jr.; a sister, Ruth B. Dunlow and a brother, Robert G. Bailey, Jr.

James was a veteran of WWII and retired from Franklin Equipment Company. He was a member of Sycamore Baptist Church, a member of Forks of the River Hunt Club and Franklin Moose Lodge.

Survivors include a son, Johnnie Wade Bailey and wife, Dee, a daughter, Judy Bailey Cotton and husband, Russ; grandchildren, April Griffin and Tommy Lee Griffin, Jr., all of Franklin, and two great-grandchildren, Devin and Brandon Spivey.

A graveside funeral with military honors will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 31, 2011 at Southampton Memorial Park with the Rev. Bill Eley officiating. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Wright Funeral Home and other times at his daughter Judy’s at 34148 S. Quay Rd., Franklin.
