FRANKLIN—At least one store in Western Tidewater has ice for those attempting to keep food preserved in coolers.

Farm Fresh on Armory Drive, Franklin, had 1,000 bags on Sunday evening, said customer service representative Kathy Wheeler. The store is open until 11 Sunday and reopens 6 a.m. Monday.

“We sold 200 bags today and probably have five pallets in the freezer yet,” Wheeler said.

Farm Fresh also has batteries and water, andsold a lot of coolers and food from its deli on Sunday, she said.

Food Lion in Franklin had no ice on Sunday.

“We sold out of ice on Friday, but are supposed to get more tomorrow (Monday),” said Sam McCall, grocery manager for the Armory Drive store.

The store was closed Saturday, but after opening at 7 a.m. Sunday, had several requests for ice, McCall said.

He expects the store to get 100, 10-pound bags and 80, 20-pound bags.

Walmart in Franklin also was out of ice on Sunday and not sure when a shipment might come in, said store Manager Shonda Hill.

“We’re waiting for a shipment to come in,” Hill said Sunday evening. “As soon as it comes out of Norfolk, but I don’t know when that will be.”

Hill heard the Exxon on North College Drive had ice. When reached, the clerk could not speak because he said the battery on his phone was low.
