COURTLAND—A North Carolina man has been charged with robbing a Wakefield Road resident, said Sgt. Wanda Covington with the Southampton County Sheriff’s Office.

Brian Whitfield, 44, of Gates County on Nov. 22 was one of three suspects involved with the robbery, Covington said.

The victim told police that a man came to the door in need of help because his vehicle had broken down. The victim allowed the man to use the phone and then two armed individuals came into the home and robbed the victim.

Whitfield was charged with robbery.
