COURTLAND—Testimony continues today in Southampton County Circuit Court for a Drewryville woman accused of killing a 21-year-old man during an attempted robbery.

Tiona Tucker, 29, allegedly was one of two suspects who shot and killed Tirail Jackson on Feb. 15, 2007.

“This was Southampton County’s own Valentine’s Day massacre,” Commonwealth’s Attorney Eric Cooke said during opening arguments on Wednesday for Tucker’s second murder trial. During a February trial, four hours of deliberations ended with a hung jury when a verdict could not be reached.

Cooke told jurors that Tucker and suspect Brian Scott shot Jackson twice in the legs and once in the back of the neck at a mobile home in the Adams Grove area of Drewryville during a robbery that went bad.

Defense attorney Barrett Richardson in his opening statement said the prosecution was lacking forensic evidence and had no eyewitnesses or confessions. The two prosecution witnesses are inmates with multiple convictions.
