James Lindberg “Byrd” Sumner, 82, of Suffolk died Aug. 15, 2011.

A native of Nansemond County, Mr. Sumner worked as a mechanic in Courtland.

He is survived by daughters Vanessa Collins of Suffolk and Dora Lee of Franklin; stepdaughter Sylvia Lawrence of Franklin, stepson Curbie Artis and his former wife, Doris Sumner.

The funeral will be 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 20, at Corinth Chapel United Church of Christ on Corinth Chapel Road. Visitation will be 11 a.m. to noon.

A wake is planned for Friday, Aug. 19, at Harris Funeral Home in Suffolk
