COURTLAND—A Gaston, N.C., man must pay $8,500 in restitution after pleading guilty Tuesday to two misdemeanor counts of construction fraud in Southampton County Circuit Court.

Steven Bottoms, 36, admitted to failing to repair a home after receiving payments.

Assistant Commonwealth Attorney Toni Duncan said Bottoms on May 24 entered into an agreement to fix the home. On several occasions through June 2, Bottoms asked for money for supplies with doing “little or no work.”

Bottoms can pay it back in monthly installments. If he fails to pay full restitution, he could spend up to one year in jail on both counts.
