CARRSVILLE—Isle of Wight County Supervisor Kenneth Bunch said Friday he will not run for the Carrsville District seat in November.

“My employers are negotiating contracts that will alter my job assignments that will require me to spend a significant amount of time working outside Isle of Wight County,” said Bunch, who is the director of business development and special projects at Community Electric Cooperative in Windsor. “With me being out of the area for extended periods, I felt that I couldn’t adequately represent my constituents.”

Independents Tom Gaskell and Joe Joyner are running for the seat.

Bunch was appointed to the board last November and will complete his term. He replaced longtime Supervisor Phillip Bradshaw, who was named chief financial officer for Isle of Wight County Schools.

Bunch previously spent seven years on the school board.

“I learned a tremendous amount about government and politics and it only makes me appreciate more the people who serve,” he said.

Bunch said he is happy with several accomplishments, including approval for the new Windsor Middle School. Bunch said he is also happy that Carrsville has been able to add emergency medical technicians to its service area during his time on the board.

The deadline for independent candidates to register of a Nov. 8 election is Aug. 23.
