FRANKLIN—More than 600 from the region attended Thursday’s annual Youth Summer Fun Day sponsored by Franklin Summer Super Jam Program at Armory Drive Recreational Park.

Boys & Girls Club members joining the Franklin group came from Exmore, Chesapeake, Virginia Beach, Norfolk and Suffolk. Additional youth came from recreational programs in Surry and Charles City counties, and Petersburg.

The Boys & Girls Club of Franklin and the Franklin Department of Parks & Recreation hosted the event.

On the near record heat day, youth played flag football and kickball, swam at the park pool and took turns on inflatable amusements provided by 3A’s Inflatables of Capron. A disc jockey from the Suffolk Boys & Girls Club provided music.

Children had hot dogs and treats for lunch and Gatorade.

After lunch, youth went to the National Guard Armory for hot shot and full-court basketball games.

The more than 20-year-old fun day initially included the recreational program of Isle of Wight County. Each year the program host rotates between the members of the group.
