Courtland – Doris Hasty Bess, 80, widow of Raymond Daniel Bess, passed away July 26, 2011 at Southampton Memorial Hospital. She was born in Southampton County, a daughter of the late Percy Lewis and Mable Denson Hasty. She was a 1949 graduate of Courtland High School and a retired secretary for the Southampton County Sheriff’s Department. Mrs. Bess was a member of Courtland United Methodist Church.

Left to cherish her memory is her daughter, Penny B. Mobley and husband, Joe, of Courtland; one granddaughter, Mary Ann Turner and husband, Brad; two great-grandchildren, Elana and Ali Turner; and one sister, Iola H. “Dick” Joyner of Franklin; .

A memorial service will be conducted at 2 pm Thursday, July 28, 2011 at Wright Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. Roger Crump officiating. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Courtland Rescue Squad, P. O.
