Temperatures soar in Sedley on Fourth of July

To the Editor:

Sedley Recreation Association would like to thank each of you that braved the heat and enjoyed all day or parts of the day at our annual celebration.

Sedley is like all small communities; it takes a lot of people working together.

Our parade was great, and Grand Marshall Joey Hewett led it.

Sedley Woman’s Club hosted the annual Veterans’ Program, which was enjoyed by all attendees, and the Sedley Ruritan Club sponsored the car show in the park.

Community members organized other events at the ball field, including a corn hole tournament, basketball tournament and poker run.

Sedley Youth Baseball and Softball manned the concession stand with a lot of good food during the day. The Recreation Association sponsored games for children of all ages.

Thanks to the businesses that sponsored events. DJ Don provided music for all ages and was sponsored by Bobby’s Muffler & Tire; Pedal Tractor Pull for children was sponsored by D&M Farms (Mark Whitley) and Felts Machine Inc. (Travis Felts).

Thanks to those who played in the softball games.

If you participated in any event during the day — thanks.

Due to rain, we were not able to have fireworks on the Fourth, but had them the following night. Our local fire department is always on standby to assist if needed. We thank them and are thankful to say we didn’t need them.

We would like to thank the fireworks crew for all the hard work they do to present the show to us.

We are making plans for next year. Have a great, safe summer!

God bless!

Anita Felts
Chairwoman
