Time to repeal Sunday hunting ban

To the Editor:

As a member of a rural organized hunting club, I’ve met numerous persons, from carpenters to fire-and-rescue volunteers and their children.

Many have limited time for hunting. We are only one of seven states that doesn’t allow Sunday hunting.

I think that small anti-hunting, anti-gun groups that predicted total chaos and “wild west” shootings in the streets when states started passing “shall issue” versus “may issue” concealed weapons permits is really behind this.

Guess what?

Nothing happened when states started issuing concealed weapon permits; the same will happen with hunting on Sundays.

I predict this 1950 law will be repealed. Experts from Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries think it is OK.

If it was OK with George Washington and Thomas Jefferson, and the “Bible” says nothing about Sunday hunting being immoral, let’s repeal this law and get back to our roots.

There will be some economic benefits from Sunday hunting. Common sense should rule and not bigotry and rigid ideology.
