FRANKLIN—A Franklin man has been charged with shooting a man in the leg on May 29, police said.

Leonard

Brandon Lee Leonard, 20, of 105 Center St. is believed to have shot an unidentified 39-year-old, who was treated and released from Southampton Memorial Hospital, police said.

Shortly after 4 a.m., police responded to a call about shots fired in the 300 block of Bruce Street. Upon officers’ arrival, there were men, women and children in the parking lot behaving in a disorderly manner, police said. None of the public housing residents apparently cooperated with police about who did the shooting.

A block away an officer saw two people arguing, and upon confronting them, found that one had been shot in the leg, police said. The victim was allegedly drunk and refused to cooperate with police. Officers recovered several small-caliber cartridge casings.

Leonard was charged with malicious wounding, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and discharge of a firearm resulting in bodily injury. He was taken to Western Tidewater Regional Jail without bond.
