Miniature horses will remain at Courtland home

COURTLAND—Southampton County supervisors on Monday gave permission for a Courtland couple to keep three miniature horses at their Darden Mill Estates home.

Supervisors unanimously approved the request by Bobby and Amy Pitts.

A neighbor turned in the Pittses for having a stable for the horses, which is not allowed in areas zoned for single-family homes like Darden Mill Estates.

The Pittses asked for a conditional-use permit — an exception that would allow them to keep their stable, thus their horses on their 2½ acres, which abuts a farm.

No one opposed the request.

The Planning Commission in May recommended supervisors approve the request.
