Boykins – Herbert Hunter Ford, Jr. 74, passed away June 21, 2011 at his residence. He was born in Windsor, NC, the son of the late Irene Lassiter and Herbert Hunter Ford, Sr. He was a retired manager of the Boykins office of Parker Oil Company with 46 years service. He was a member of Boykins United Methodist Church and was a former member and deacon of Boykins Baptist Church. Hunter was a former member of the Boykins Lions Club and a charter member of Boykins Volunteer Fire and Rescue, and had held many offices through the years in both organizations.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Evelyn Beatty Ford; one daughter, Yvette F. Smith and husband, J. D. III of Sedley; one son Bruce L. Ford and wife, Susan of Chesterfield; three grandchildren, John Daniel Smith, IV of Newport News, James Ford and Katherine Ford, both of Chesterfield; one uncle, R. T. Lassiter, Jr. of Boykins; many cousins on the Lassiter and Ford side, including a special cousin, Marcia Garris of Boykins.

A graveside service will be conducted at 10:30 am Thursday, June 23, 2011 at Beechwood Cemetery with the Rev. Michael Baugham officiating. The family will receive friends today (Wednesday) from 7 to 8:30 pm at the Boykins chapel of Wright Funeral Home, and suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to Boykins Rescue Squad, P.
