NEWSOMS—The Southampton County Sheriff’s Office is looking for information related the theft of jewelry valued at $75,000 during a June 4 break-in at a home in the 29000 block of South Main Street in Newsoms.
Authorities said the thief a few days later went door-to-door in Newsoms attempting to sell the jewelry.
“We got two pieces back from someone who purchased it,” said Sgt. Wanda Covington. “We’ve got some of it back, but not nearly all of it.”
Anyone who purchased the jewelry is asked to contact Detective M. Turner at 653-2100.
It is also possible that the burglar attempted to sell the jewelry in Franklin, authorities said.
A reward of $1,000 is available for information leading to the return of the jewelry.
