FRANKLIN—A group of city officials, residents and civic organizations is teaming up to bring back the Franklin Christmas Parade.
The parade committee will have its first meeting on Tuesday, June 21, to discuss a theme, choose a grand marshal and pick a time for the Dec. 2 event, said committee member Scott Seddon.
“We don’t know a time yet,” Seddon said. “We know it’s going to be in the evening; we just have to figure out a time.”
The GFWC Junior Woman’s Club hosted the parade from 2001 to 2007 before the city took it over in 2008. The event was rained out and not rescheduled in 2009. No group stepped up to organize the parade last year.
City Manager June Fleming and her staff made a New Year’s resolution to have a parade this year, and the new committee will help make that happen, Seddon said.
Committee members include Erin Turner, executive assistant to Fleming; Frank Davis, director of Franklin Parks & Recreation; Dan Howe, Downtown Franklin Association manager; Seddon, president of the Franklin Shrine Club; and Trish Edwards of the GFWC Franklin Junior Woman’s Club.
The committee will add representatives of other civic groups and organizations.
“This is going to be a pure community event,” Seddon said.
The event will coincide with the DFA’s annual Elf Parade, as well as a visit from Santa.
