NEWSOMS–Rebecca Rudy Thorpe, 92, widow of John Blount Thorpe, passed away June 16, 2011. She was born in Woodstock, VA, the daughter of the late Glen and Elizabeth Heltzel Rudy. She was a member of Barnes United Methodist Church.

Left to cherish her memory are two daughters, Nancy T. Daisey and husband, Tom of Newsoms and Mary Ann T. Carman and husband, Charles of Nellysford; two sons, George L. Thorpe, Sr. and J. Blount Thorpe, III and wife Je’Nen, all of Newsoms; one brother, Harry Rudy and wife, Gloris of Woodstock; twelve grandchildren; and fourteen great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11 am Monday, June 20, 2011 at Hollywood Cemetery with the Rev. Darwin Edwards and The Rev. Charles Carman officiating. The family will receive friends from 3 to 4:30 pm Sunday at Wright Funeral Home, Franklin, and suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to Barnes United Methodist Church, c/o Betty Darden, 33701 Statesville Road, Newsoms, VA. 23874. www.wrightfuneralhome.org
