Wedding day disaster in Zuni averted

To the Editor:
Many times I am reminded of my past in the Zuni community.
These memories consist of family and loyal friendships during good and bad times we all experience.
Last month, while visiting my brother’s home to attend a joyous wedding for his daughter, our car destroyed his well about 9 a.m. before his daughter’s wedding at 4 p.m.
Our intentions were not to crash the wedding, however, we did crash their well.
Because of the strong friendship and community spirit between the Barrett family and the Creason family, someone was on the scene within a half hour.
While my Zuni family remained calm, and my brother extremely good natured, we all knew that nearly 200 guests had been invited to their home that evening!
The well was repaired by early afternoon to everyone’s relief.
As an English teacher, many idioms come to mind as I reflect on this surreal event, such as “all’s well that ends well.”
To the Creason family I will always say thanks for a job well done.
