Murder suspect set for trial on Oct. 24

COURTLAND—A Portsmouth man faces an Oct. 24 trial before a Southampton County Circuit Court judge for the Oct. 7 murder of Darrin Lee.
Ernest Jones Jr., 22, was arraigned Tuesday. Jones is among six charged with first-degree murder for the shooting death of the 28-year-old Lee outside his home in Southampton Meadows Mobile Home Park after being abducted from Man Market on South Street in Franklin.
Suspect Rasheed Brown, 21, of Franklin is the only suspect who has asked for a jury trial. Brown, who was pinned as the alleged trigger man during a preliminary hearing, will be tried Tuesday, Sept. 20, through Thursday, Sept. 22, at the courthouse in Courtland.
Suspects Darrin Robinson, 20, of Suffolk and Shahon Cumbo, 21, of Franklin are scheduled for trial before a judge on Tuesday, Aug. 30.
Bruce Boone, 18, of Suffolk, will have trial before a judge on Monday, July 18.
Murder charges against Dayquan Eley, 18, of Suffolk were dismissed.
