FRANKLIN—Close to 1,150 homes and businesses in Western Tidewater remained without power Wednesday morning from a Tuesday storm that packed wind gusts of 50 to 60 miles per hour.

Bonita Harris, spokeswoman for Dominion Virginia Power, said there were 972 customers in Isle of Wight County and 172 in Southampton County without power.

Scott Whisenant, line supervisor with Franklin Power and Light, said power to all but two customers had been restored as of 9:45 p.m. Tuesday. A total of 950 customers lost their electricity.

Minor damage from fallen trees and limbs was reported across the area and traffic signals at College and Armory drives and on Sedley Road near Franklin High School were out.
