Mary Katherine Ellsworth Duffy

Mary Katherine Ellsworth Duffy, 90, widow of William C. Duffy, Sr., passed away Sunday, May 08, 2011 at her residence. Born in Sedley, VA, she was the daughter of the late Herbert E. and Mary Morris Ellsworth, and resided in Franklin, VA most of her life. Mrs. Duffy was a member of High Street United Methodist Church, a charter member of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter No. 128, and also a charter member of the Pine’s Garden Club in Franklin. She was an avid gardener who enjoyed working in her yard, and was affectionately known as “The Boxwood Lady.” In 1980, her garden was open to the public as a part of the Franklin garden club tours. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister and brother-in-law, Evelyn Ellsworth Morris and Mike Morris. She is survived by two daughters, Kay Duffy of Roanoke, VA, and Judith D. Andrews and husband, Charles, of Prince George, VA; two sons, William C. Duffy, Jr. and wife, Donna, of Collierville, TN, and Michael E. Duffy and wife, Sandy, of Virginia Beach, VA; five grandchildren, Clifton Andrews, Jackie Sugg, Mary Duffy, William Duffy, and Trevor Edge; three great-grandchildren, Sawyer Andrews, Harper Sugg and Marshall Sugg; brother-in-law, Kenneth Duffy of Franklin; and sister-in-law, Margaret Houle of Carsville. The family would like to thank the staff of Comfort Keepers for their compassion and loving care. A graveside funeral service will be held at Noon on Wednesday, May 18th, at Poplar Springs Cemetery, Franklin, VA, with The Reverend Ed Johnson, officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 17th, at her residence – 200 Hunterdale Road, Franklin, VA. Mrs. Duffy may be viewed Tuesday, May 17th at Wright Funeral Home, Franklin, VA. The family is being served by the Wakefield Chapel of J. T.
