BOYKINS—The investigation continues into the death of a Boykins man who was hit by a train at 2:05 a.m. Sunday between Route 35 and Branchville, said Virginia State Police Sgt. Jeff Singleton.

The death of Clarance Williams, 28, is being investigated as accidental, Singleton said.

“We’re making sure we do a thorough investigation,” he said. “We’re still interviewing persons in the Boykins area.”

As far as police know, Williams was alone at the time, Singleton said.

“That’s part of the investigation,” he said, noting there are rumors going around about Williams’ death. “We’re interviewing a lot of people to be sure we get this right and we are waiting on tapes from CSX.”

Police learned about Williams’ death after the conductor reported hitting something. Williams was hit on a section of tracks that goes through private property.

Police are working with CSX investigators.
