COURTLAND—One of eight people arrested in late January for allegedly selling crack cocaine or heroin to undercover agents will serve two years and one month in prison.

Stephanie Joyner, 39, of 611 Amherst Lane, Waverly, recently pleaded guilty in Southampton County Circuit Court to three counts of distribution of cocaine, according a court spokeswoman.

Five additional suspects are set for trials, while another is awaiting a trial date. The final suspect is awaiting his preliminary hearing.

Franklin police on Jan. 26 spent 13 hours rounding up, booking and transporting suspects indicted on drug charges to jail. Virginia State Police, Newport News Police and the F.B.I. Safe Streets Task Force assisted.

Police served search warrants at 410 Bruce St., Franklin, where suspect Reginald Leon Hunt lived, and 433 Cobb St., the home of his brother, Fritez “Freddie” Hunt.

At the Bruce Street home, police said they recovered a .22 caliber rifle, ammunition, enough crack-cocaine to show it was being sold and items used to sell drugs.

At the Cobb Street home, a quantity of heroin consistent with distribution was seized along with items for selling narcotics, police said.

Scheduled for trials are:

* Damien Beale, 25, of 443 Bruce St., Franklin, at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 17. At the time of Beale’s arrest, police said he was in possession of crack cocaine, a loaded Ruger 9mm pistol and $600. Beale was charged with distribution of cocaine, possession of cocaine with intent to distribute, possession of a firearm while in possession of drugs and carrying a concealed weapon.

* Gennis Lee Edwards Jr., 50, of 221 Stonewall St., Franklin, at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 12, for alleged distribution of cocaine.

Reginald Hunt, 51, will be arraigned in Southampton County Circuit Court at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, May 19; a trial will be set during the arraignment. He was charged with three counts of distribution of heroin, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of cocaine with intent to distribute.

Fritez “Freddie” Hunt, 54, of 433 Cobb St., Franklin, has a preliminary hearing at 1 p.m. Monday, June 13, in Franklin General District Court. If a judge determines there’s enough evidence on charges of possession of heroin with intent to distribute, Hunt’s case will continue in Southampton County Circuit Court.
