ARGS sweeps Franklin girls’ tennis

FRANKLIN—The Appomattox Regional Governor’s School girls’ tennis team swept Franklin 9-0 in a Tri-Rivers District match Thursday.
“Although the scores appear to be lopsided, Franklin played smart and played well with senior Samantha Bruck playing the best match of her high school career against ARGS senior Shelby Floyd, a strong contender for the district singles title,” said Bronco Coach Calvin Sing.
In singles action, No. 1 Shelby Floyd defeated Samantha Bruck 6-1, 6-1; No. 2 Nourdjan Hadjivelieva beat Asya Lee 6-1, 6-0; No. 3 Morgan Loehr defeated Jeanetta Sessoms 6-0, 6-1; No. 4 Ally Metz beat Kaitlyn Trotter 6-0,6-0; No. 5 Sidney Tilghman defeated Tyreccka Hawks 6-0, 6-0; and No. 6 Jenna Slattum beat JaShonda Elliot 6-0, 6-0.
In doubles action, No. 1 Hadjivelieva /Loehr defeated Bruck/Trotter 6-1, 6-0; No. 2 Tilghman/Metz defeated Kiera Cofield/Maura Zurfluh 6-1, 6-0; and No. 3 Floyd/Slattum defeated Hawks/ Rebecca Gray 6-0, 6-1.
In exhibition doubles, the Franklin tandem of A. Lee/J. Sessoms defeated Erica Jaimes/Asal Najmi 9-7 and ARGS duo of Alex Walden/Catherine Turner led 6-2 over M. Zurfluh/ Cheyenne Banks when the match was called.
Franklin stands at 4-8 on the season and 1-2 in the district with three district games remaining. ARGS is 4-0 in the district with two district games remaining.
