Grant double winner at district meet

SURRY—Franklin senior Justin Grant was a double winner during Tuesday’s Tri-Rivers District track meet in Surry.
Grant took first in the 100- and 200-meter dashes in addition to third in the long and triple jumps. Single winners were Lavon Evans in the shot put and Reshard Sumblin in the triple jump. Evans also took third in the discus and Sumblin took second in the long jump and third in the 200-meter dash.
The only first-place finisher for the girls was Tiana Agee in the long jump.
The Bronco boys finished second overall and the girls placed third. Other schools competing were Charles City, Surry and Sussex.
Others who placed for the girls were:
•Raynesha Blow—Third in the long jump and 200-meter dash and fifth in the 100-meter dash.
•Ciara Banks—Second in shot put
•Kiara Banks—Third in 300-meter hurdles
•Aerial Darden—Second in the long jump, fourth in the 100-meter dash and fifth in the 200-meter dash
The girls’ 4×100-meter relay team of Blow, Darden, Janesha Hurdle and Agee placed third with a time of 56.8 seconds.
For the boys, placers were:
•Javonte Blacknall—Second in the triple jump and fourth in the 100-meter dash
•Travis Brown—Fourth in the long jump
•Justin Everett—Second in the shot put
•Clinton Smith—Fifth in the 400-meter dash
The 4×100-meter boys’ relay time of Brown, Blacknall, Sumblin and Grant hit a state qualifying time at 44.7 seconds.
The Broncos’ next track meet will be Tuesday, May 10, at Charles City. The Tri-Rivers District Championship will be held there at 3 p.m. Tuesday, May 17.
