COURTLAND—Southampton County supervisors on Monday gave a Capron man permission to operate his motorcycle and machine repair shop from his home.

Anthony Austin, owner of Austin Cycle Co. at 22186 Main St., across from the post office in Courtland, plans to move the business to his home at 22419 Barrow Road.

The area is zoned for agriculture, which does not allow businesses without permission from the Board of Supervisors. Austin sought to rezone a half-acre of his 1.5 acres west of Route 35 to commercial so he could use an existing garage for his business.

The county Planning Commission recommended approval of the request during its March 10 meeting.

Prior to Monday’s vote, Supervisor Ron West asked Austin how he planned to dispose of used oil and other hazardous wastes.

Austin said would either have it picked up or take it to a disposal site. At his Courtland location, he heats his shop with used oil.

Austin has one full-time employee and two part-timers when needed.
